Cantone Research Inc., Investigation

Have you suffered losses investing through Cantone Research, Inc. “certificates of partication” (COPs)?  The securities attorneys of The White Law Group are investigating potential claim’s involving Cantone Research’s certificates of participation.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s (FINRA) website, FINRA recently filed a complaint against Cantone Research and its President, Anthony J. Cantone. The complaint alleges Cantone Research and Mr. Cantone misrepresented and/or failed to disclose material facts to investors.

According to FINRA, four of the five promissory notes have allegedly defaulted resulting in nearly $6 million in losses for investors. The promissory notes issued by nursing homes and assisted living facilities were allegedly controlled by Christopher Brogdon. FINRA further alleges that many investors were not made aware of Brogdon’s questionable history in the securities industry.

FINRA also alleges that Cantone Research and Cantone misrepresented and/or failed to disclose material facts to investors and prospective investors, including that:

  • Brogdon had twice been barred from the securities industry, once for “egregious misconduct” involving unauthorized transactions, and later for a separate “scheme” involving financial misconduct;
  • Brogdon had been indicted for racketeering, theft and Medicaid fraud;
  • Brogdon had been found liable for breaching a stock repurchase guarantee agreement; and
  • several entities controlled by Brogdon had filed for bankruptcy.

Brokerage firms like, Cantone Research, have an obligation to perform due diligence on all investment recommendations, and adequately disclose information that could influence a clients decision to invest. If the allegations against Cantone Research are proven, investors may be able to recover investment losses through a FINRA arbitration claim.
