Recovery of United States Oil ETF Losses

Have you suffered losses investing in United States Oil ETF?  If so, the securities attorneys of The White Law Group may be able to help you recover your losses in a FINRA arbitration claim against the brokerage firm that recommended the investment.

United States Oil ETF is an exchange-traded fund.  The investment seeks to reflect the performance, less expenses, of the spot price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) light, sweet crude oil. The fund will invest in futures contracts for WTI light, sweet crude oil, other types of crude oil, heating oil, gasoline, natural gas and other petroleum based-fuels that are traded on exchanges. It may also invest in other oil interests such as cash-settled options on oil futures contracts, forward contracts for oil, and OTC transactions that are based on the price of oil.  United States Oil ETF is down 42.36% year-to-date.

Commodity ETFs may be affected by changes in overall market movements, commodity index volatility, changes in interest rates or factors affecting a particular industry or commodity. Commodity ETFs may be subject to greater volatility than traditional ETFs and are only suitable for wealthy, sophisticated retail investors or institutional investors. Unique risk factors of a commodity fund may include, but are not limited to the fund’s use of aggressive investment techniques such as derivatives, options, forward contracts, correlation or inverse correlation, market price variance risk and leverage.

Brokerage firms that sell such products are required to perform adequate due diligence on the investments to ensure a reasonable likelihood of success, and to evaluate whether the investments are suitable in light of the client’s age, net worth, investment experience, and investment objectives.  Firms that fail to perform adequate due diligence, or that make unsuitable recommendations, can be held responsible for losses in a FINRA arbitration claim.
