iPath® S&P GSCI® Total Return Index ETN (GSP) Investigation
Concerned about your investment in GSP?
Have you suffered losses investing in iPath® S&P GSCI® Total Return Index ETN (GSP)? If so, The White Law Group may be able to help you recover your losses by filing a FINRA arbitration claim against the brokerage firm that sold you the investment.
The iPath®S&P GSCI® Total Return Index ETNs are designed to provide exposure to the S&P GSCI® Total Return Index.
According to the prospectus, the ETNs, issued by Barclays Bank, “are riskier than ordinary unsecured debt securities and have no principal protection. An investment in the ETNs involves significant risks, including possible loss of principal, and may not be suitable for all investors.”
The Index provides exposure to the returns that are potentially available through an unleveraged investment in the contracts comprising the Index plus the Treasury Bill rate of interest that could be earned on funds committed to the trading of the underlying contracts.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has caused securities markets to tank. Unfortunately for investors, GSP is reportedly down -50.03% in the past 3 months. Various banks are calling mandatory redemptions of certain ETNs and have frozen the trading of others, causing investors huge losses.
Recovery of Investment Losses
The White Law Group continues to investigate the liability that brokerage firms may have for recommending complex and risky ETNs like GSP to investors.
iPath ETNs are complex, high risk senior, unsecured, unsubordinated debt securities that are designed to track the total return of a specific market index. Due to their risk and complexity, iPath ETNs are not appropriate for conservative investors or seniors seeking to preserve their capital.
Financial professionals and brokerage firms have a duty to recommend only investments that are appropriate for the client based on the client’s age, investment experience, net worth, and investment objectives.
