FINRA Bars Broker Jason Head after Allegations of Theft

According to public records on January 15th, 2025, The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has reportedly barred Jason Head (CRD# 4920135) from working as a broker after allegations of conversion of customers’ funds.

According to a press release in September 2024,  the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Alabama reportedly charged Head with theft of more than $500,000 in client funds.

A one-count information filed in U.S. District Court charges Jason Brooks Head, 46, of Tuscaloosa, with bank embezzlement. A plea agreement was reportedly filed with the information, indicating that Head has agreed to plead guilty to the charge.

According to the information and plea agreement, Head was reportedly registered as a stockbroker who worked for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management throughout the relevant period.  Beginning in July 2020 and continuing through November 2023, Head allegedly withdrew approximately $500,114.81 from the accounts of two of his Morgan Stanley clients without their authorization. Head purportedly transferred the funds to accounts he controlled and used for his personal benefit.

Broker Embezzlement: Protect yourself

Investors trust brokers to manage their finances, but cases of fraud, like embezzlement, show how important it is to take steps to protect your assets. While no method can guarantee complete protection, staying informed and proactive can lower your risk significantly.

Start by researching your broker or advisor thoroughly. Use tools like FINRA’s BrokerCheck to review their credentials and check for any past disciplinary actions. Choose well-established, reputable firms with a strong record of compliance and ethics.

Before signing any agreements, carefully review the terms, fees, and policies, and make it a habit to monitor your accounts for unusual activity. Clearly communicate your financial goals and risk tolerance, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Diversify your investments to reduce the impact of potential fraud by any single broker. By following these steps, you can better protect yourself and your financial future.
