According to a recent article by Dan Swanson in the Nebraska City News Press, former stockbroker Rebecca Engle has been sentenced, “to two consecutive 18 to 36 month prison terms for her involvement in what prosecutors called the biggest securities fraud case in state history.” Swanson reported that “over 150 investors lost in excess of $20 million.”
It was reported that Engle and her partner raised $16.1 million for American Capital Corporation and that a member of the state Attorney General’s Office stated that Engle “had no experience in selling private placement investments and Engle was trying unsuccessfully to learn where investors’ money was going and how so much of it could be lost.”
According to the broker information available through Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Engle was registered with FINRA member Capital Growth Financial, LLC from 09/2002 – 05/2006 and with VSR Financial Services, INC. from 05/2006 – 02/2007. FINRA’s broker report details sanctions and complaints against Engle while she was under the employ of Capital Growth Financial and another previous employer Wachovia Securities, LLC.
While Engle’s improprieties are several years old, investors may still have cause for action.
