The following is a brief breakdown of publicly available information regarding Securities America and its securities sales practices and FINRA regulatory history.
Securities America is a FINRA registered broker-dealer based in Lavista, Nebraska. At the time of this writing, Securities America is owned by Ameriprise Financial, but, according to media reports, Ameriprise is currently in the process of trying to sell the firm.
Although Securities America has a solid reputation in the securities industry, investors should know that the firm does have numerous reportable events on its FINRA Broker Report (or CRD).
According to the firm’s CRD, Securities America has been named in at least 30 regulatory events related to possible securities fraud violations. The firm has been the subject of investigations conducted by FINRA, the State of Nevada Department of Insurance, the State of Indiana Securities Division, and the Massachusetts Securities Division (among others). These regulatory investigations involved the following investment products (among others): promissory notes, direct investments and limited partnerships, mutual funds, corporate debt, and variable annuities.
The firm has also been named in over 20 FINRA arbitration claims filed by investors. These claims involved various investment types and causes of action.
